Keeping natural hair frizz-free is one of the biggest issue we face during the hot summer months.
To a degree, I will always encourage embracing frizz, but I also understand wanting to achieve a look. Therefore, when I want to achieve a frizz-free wash and go I turn to specific stylers for their anti-humidity ingredients.
The frizz-free holy trinity
One huge culprit for frizz is too much humectant in a product (more on humectants here). The second key is using a gel that has enough hold to resist humidity enough to maintain the gel cast. Most importantly, if you can find a gel that meets the previous two needs and also doesn’t leave the hair dry, you have the holy trinity.
Of course, finding one product, much less multiples, to meet those needs has been a multi-year search.
I have five years of the wash & go series on my Youtube channel, in which I try out new gels every single year.
Luckily, I have come across a few gems over the years, and I like to turn to them every Spring and Summer for those days when I just want to achieve that perfect wash and go.
1
TreLuxe Hi-Definition Styling Custard
This pricy gel is a powerhouse with no humectants in the first five ingredients. My hair usually has enough hold using the gel and TreLuxe Untie The Knot leave-in conditioner together to give me a frizz-free wash and go to last at least five days.
I have shown a demo using the gel several times, but my favorite way to use the Hi-Definition Styling Gel is for a reverse wash and go. During the summer months, I top the style with a silicone-based serum to finish the look with shine and give my ends a bit more resistance to humidity.
The result is a well defined, long-lasting wash and gos ‘that resists frizz and leaves my hair moisturized.

Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic Curl Stimulator
UFDCM is a year-round staple in my haircare arsenal. The learning curve with this product is short, and it can be used quite effectively alone. However, I find pairing the Curly Magic with Paul Mitchell The Conditioner is a winning combination.
The Paul Mitchell helps to immediately add hold to the hair without weight, and the UFDCM comes in handy to take away frizz and provide hold as well as moisture. While the gel leaves the hair sticky until dry, the cast is soft, so my hair remains light and has tons of movement.
Uncle Funky’s leaves humectants out of the top five ingredients of the Curly Magic, making this gel a must-try for these hot months.

Obia Naturals Curl Enhancing Custard
I am a new Obia Naturals convert, but I am here to say: DON’T SLEEP ON THIS BRAND! The Curl Enhancing Custard does not have humectants in the first five ingredients and is very easy to use. Because this is a custard, I do not stretch my hair to ensure a frizz-free long-lasting result.
My favorite pairing is with Camille Rose Curl Love Moisture Milk, but I haven’t tried any Obia leave-in conditioners just yet. Every time I use this custard, I am pleasantly surprised by the result, and I am doubly surprised by how long the definition lasts.
For those who don’t enjoy gels, this custard will give you the hold and definition you seek, without the frizz.
Summer is my favorite time of year for achieving a wash and go on my natural hair. I tend to wash my hair more frequently, so the goal is quick frizz-free styling.
I turn to the product combinations above for that fail-proof summer wash and go that adds to my overall easy-breezy style aesthetic.
